Our Business

Saratoga Books buys and sells mysteries published between WWI and WWII. (1920-1950) Whether it's of the British "Golden Age" or the American school of Hard-boiled literature, we believe books from this era are the best the genre has to offer. We are passionate about hunting down and making available unique books from this period for collectors.

Our Books

All of our books are individually scouted and bought. We don't buy in bulk and we specialize in hard to find, unique books. Because we're picky, we don't offer a lot of books - just good books. This is what we look for:

Grading

Because condition is so important to discerning collectors, we work hard to disclose all flaws in our descriptions. We use grading standards defined in Firsts magazine. Grading is an art, not a science. When we err, hopefully it is on the conservative side. We are happy to provide digital photos of any of our offerings. Books are returnable for any reason within seven days if they do not meet your expectations. See our page on grading.

Pricing

Because we don't have an open shop or other high fixed expenses, we can price our offerings sharply relative to our competition, passing savings on to our customer. Because we are a business, we need to make a fair profit, but we generally have a little room on prices for larger purchases and for regular customers.
