About Us

Founded on a love of books and a decade as serious collectors, we started Saratoga Books after 30 years as corporate executives.

Our specialty is Twentieth Century Mystery and Detective Fiction, primarily books from 1920-1970 with an affinity for the American Hard-Boiled School. Author specialties include Dashiell Hammett, Raymond Chandler, Cornell Woolrich, Rex Stout, John D. MacDonald, Ross MacDonald, Nelson Algren, Mickey Spillane and Charles Willeford as well as other Black Mask writers.

We take pride in writing detailed catalog listings with thorough and accurate descriptions of condition, providing historical or literary perspective for each item. We generally produce two catalogs a year; if you would like to be included in future mailings, please go to our mail list link and provide your contact information.

We particularly enjoy uncovering the obscure or overlooked volume and providing context of importance to a collector. If you wish to be notified about a specific topic, please complete our Add Notification process.

Collectors, dealers, publishers and authors regularly seek our expertise; we have compiled a Mystery Reference Library to support our research.

We are proud members of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association (ABAA) and the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers (ILAB), the pre-eminent trade organization for the Rare Book profession.
