Replicates First Edition jacket art   Set in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, a rare foray by Wolfe out of his Brownstone lair.  Called a "masterpiece" by Barzun and Taylor in A CATALOGUE OF CRIME.  Affordable copy of one of the most sought after early Wolfe's.

A clean, flawless copy.  Published in the US as Plot it Yourself.  Wolfe investigates extortion of authors via phony plagarism lawsuits and murder ensues.  The subject of plagarism was important to Stout, as he spent many years working to revise laws in favor of writers. An extremely nice copy, uncommon. One of only two Bibliomysteries written by Stout

Extremely nice early reprint (not cheaply produced Wartime Madison Square edition) Ownership signature on FFE, else flawless.  Jacket has only a touch of wear on edges; else very clean, bright and intact.   Non-Wolfe, story of Kansas school teachers who venture to New York City.  "It certainly could not be said that New York is too much for them: they find that the gangsters entertainers, and gold-diggers are really no brighter than the folks back home,"  according to the jacket.  Stout's humor evident throughout.    Scarce in any edition.

Townsend A5. Advance publisher's copy with "Discussion Copy" stamped on front boards and printed across front panel of the dustjacket.  Rear panel has an explanation titled "Why a discussion copy". This apparently is a form of Advance Review copy designed to assess critical interest in the yet unproven Stout.  Purple boards are faded (common with this title), a slight touch of fraying at base of spine, two ownership signatures; else clean, tight square and unmarked.  Professionally restored jacket has light toning, light rubbing on rear panel; else intact, very nice period art by Leffertz.  Stout's first book, a noirish psychlogical suspense story, some feel is overlooked and underrated.  A very special item, particularly in this condition.Advance Review Copy.
